Navy Grog
Navy Grog

While this originated in 1941 at Don The Beachcomber, it is still very popular today. However, a t least 2 North Jersey restaurants have their own interpretation of a Navy Grog. They float it with some red wine. However, the original Tiki drink does not. This was a favorite of Frank Sinatra, most likely because it was high in alcohol volume but low on sweetness. In a Palm Springs documentary, they showed Don’s Beachcomber on Sinatra’s most frequently called dining/drinking establishments. The garnish is really the star of the cocktail here. If you cannot make one at home, there are plenty of online video tutorials, or you can just invest the money to make one the way the professionals might. CocktailKingdom.com sells them online.
