Manhattan
Manhattan Cocktail

The easiest way to remember this drink is by Manhattan’s area code which is 212 – Two parts Rye whiskey; one part sweet vermouth; 2 dashes of bitters. Some use bourbon, and that is ok, but to be historically accurate, rye would be the spirit of choice in the Northern States since that is where rye is produced in New York and around Canada. The only other controversial topic is whether to serve it stirred and straight up, or in a rocks glass over ice. If you serve it straight up, sip it slower since the drink is already diluted by stirring. If you have it on the rocks, it is bolder up front, but will dilute over time. Your choice, I prefer it straight up, but will drink it either way.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 ounces rye whiskey
- 1 ounce red vermouth
- 2 dashes bitters (Angostura works well, as well as Orange)
- GARNISH: Cocktail cherry.
