Vesper

Vesper

The James Bond character really “shook” things up a bit in the martini world. First, he insisted it contain vodka, but also that it be shaken, not stirred.  Shaking dilutes the drink more, and faster, but I guess he was in a hurry to have a drink and go kill someone.  The character portrayed in Ian Flemming’s book was a gentleman, but a rough and tumble guy who went across the grain or norms of society, that is why a martini, which was traditionally (and correctly) stirred, was preferred shaken by Agent 007.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1.5 ounces London Dry Gin
  • 1.5 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce dry vermouth
  • Shake (not stirred)
  • Strain into a chilled martini glass.
