Poison Dart

Poison Dart

Created circa 2010 by Craig “Colonel Tiki” Herman

I found this on DiffordsGuide.com while searching for something else.  Cinnamon syrup has to be prepared a day in advance, and once it’s made, what do you do with it other than pancakes and Jet Pilot cocktails?  There are other tiki cocktails you can use cinnamon syrup in as well, but they fall flat.  Here is another option if you like bourbon.  This reminded me a bit of a Whiskey Sour but with a lot more flavor elements. I adjusted the amounts because I don’t think anyone knows what 1/24th of an ounce is. When measurements get this small, it’s best to use a 1/8 teaspoon measure. Ironically I learned that this was created by a mixologist who is also known by “Colonel Tiki”. While this drink does not scream tiki, it is very tasty.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces (60ml) Bourbon whiskey
  • 1/2 ounce (15ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce (15ml) Orgeat (I used L’Orgeat)
  • 1/4 ounce (10ml) Cynar Amaro
  • 1/8 ounce (5ml) Cinnamon syrup
  • 1/16 ounce (Allspice Dram Liqueur)
  • 1 Dash orange bitters

METHOD

  • Shake all ingredients well with ice.
  • Strain into a rocks glass with clean fresh ice
  • Garnish with orange zest and/or orange rind twist
