Izumi Hibachi (Wayne NJ)

Once known as “Bali Kai”, a Polynesian themed restaurant and Tiki bar, it opened in 1968 but later became a Japanese Hibachi Steak house. I was not of legal drinking age when they
changed the theme (though I hear they were known for serving underaged teens). I honestly don’t remember what it was like 15 years ago, so we returned again last night for my friend’s birthday. I am not sure what decor was still there since I was there last, let alone what it might have looked like as a Tiki bar. The bar itself was not impressive. It was more just to make money while people waited for their table (even if they did make reservations). You can see the cocktail menu before. I am still trying to research what Okalchau is – I think it is misspelled but whatever it is, there was not much alcohol in this drink.
Now everyone loves a Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse setting. It is entertaining, it’s fun, and kids generally love seeing the giant flames shoot into the air. Sometimes you have to realize you are paying for the show, not necessarily the quality of the food.
