Two piece bathing suits lead to the even skimpier bikini by French fashion designer Louis Réard. It is not a new concept, as women in India and Sicily have been using similar fashions for thousands of years.
While Marilyn Monroe is widely one of the most recognized sex symbols, pinup models like Bettie Page define the era. It will be another decade before the Mini Skirt makes its debut and starts raising eyebrows and hemlines again.
