Brazil

Brazil is South America’s largest country, not just by land, but by population.  Consequently it was divided up as such by the Portuguese and Spaniards. Half of South America was controlled and settled by Spain, and Brazil was control of the Portuguese. It was easiest (for them) to divide up the continent this way because Brazil is not only isolated by mountains and the Amazon Rainforest, but because of Portugal they speak the Brazilian dialect of Portuguese, and not Spanish like the rest of the continent.
