Maison Premiere

298 Bedford Avenue Brooklyn NY

The most interesting thing about Maison Premiere is that they have 30 different types of oysters. Even as a seafood lover, I didn’t even know there were 30 different types that could be cultivated, procured and served all in one place. If you are coming here, it is to drink, not because of the full menu which is mostly seafood. They are suitable snacks, but you either want to eat before you come and snack there or go out to eat after a cocktail and appetizers.
They are on many of the Top 50 Bar lists and I can see why. Their version of À La Louisiane was incredible. I often scoff when I see a Mai Tai on a menu but this one was one of the very best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had them at The Polynesian, Mai Kai, Paradise Lost, Sunken Harbor Club, Mother of Pearl, and all the rest I would not even mention in this list.
For the Cocktail Menu I tasted them all, but I did not drink them all entirely because it was 1pm in the afternoon and did not want to crawl through the streets of Brooklyn to get back to my ride.
- À La Louisiane – Next to the Mai Tai, this was the star of the show.
- Martini – I make these at home, I find that if you do not freeze it, it does not have that thick mouthfeel I like. They used Hyman’s Gin, I only had 2 sips while I ate a couple of oysters.
- Mai Tai – One of the Top 5 I’ve ever had and I’ve had them at numerous authentic Tiki Bars.
- Red Balloon – A bit too sweet
- Maison Margarita – A bit too bitter
- Shining Path – Also very bitter, but that was because made with several French aperitifs.
- Good Night Moon – A very spicy but good cocktail, however the ginger was a bit too overbearing.
