Blue Gardenia

While taking a break from tiki and focussing on Post Prohibition cocktails, I rediscovered Film Noir and was pleasantly surprised to find a scene from a Tiki bar/restaurant in the movie Blue Gardenia. The bonus was Nat King Cole playing Blue Gardenia live in the restaurant.  The movie is an interesting one, like all Film Noir they plots are not easy to believe but I guess they were a guilty pleasure of more than half a century ago.  This movie had some real tiki gems, not just the Polynesian Pearl Diver, but another cocktail called Blue Gardenia dug up by David Wodrich that J. Popo Galsini won an award for.

INGREDIENTS

• 1.5 ounces (50ml) cognac
• 1/2 ounce (15ml) blue curacao
• 1/4 ounce (15ml) light or heavy cream
• 1/4 ounce (15ml) Maraschino liqueur
• 1/4 ounce (15ml) parfait amor
• GARNISH: Orchid or mint leaf

METHOD

1. Add all ingredients into a shaker with cubed ice
2. Shake well
3. Double strain into a chilled cocktail coupe
