While the staff will tell you “We are not a tiki bar”, I am not sure. Maybe it has a negative connotation to some, maybe they think it’s cultural appropriation, but it is more tiki than places that claim to be tiki. What I found interesting was all the televisions were playing the same episodes of Baywatch on a loop. Honestly I had never seen an episode, but I saw at least a few during our visit. I knew about the show and what it was, but never knew what the attraction was other than beautiful people on the beach… nothing wrong with that, but it just never captured my interest. The drinks were ok, better than some, but not memorable. What I did love was the decor.
Pearl Diver Cocktail (Don The Beachcomber 1950s)
- 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1/2 ounce fresh orange juice
- 1/2 ounce Don’s Gardenia Mix (1 ounce unsalted butter; 1 ounce honey; 1 teaspoon cinnamon syrup 1/2 teaspoon vanilla syrup; 1/2 teaspoon pimento liqueur)
- 1/2 demerara rum (Hamilton or El Dorado 8yr)
- 1.5 ounce gold Puerto Rican rum
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- 4 ounce crushed ice
Blend on high speed for 20 seconds, double strain into a glass with clean ice
