Italian Submarine Sandwich

Probably because of its shape, that is how this sandwich gets its name. Whatever you like can go on it, if you don’t like salami, skip it or add mortadella, there are no rules here, it is whatever you like.

Here is my favorite version of the Italian Sub:

INGREDIENTS per sandwich:

  • 3 slices prosciutto
  • 3 slices provolone cheese
  • 3 slices hard salami
  • 3 slices fresh tomato
  • 3 slices Cappicola
  • Iceberg Lettuce
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Red Wine Vinegar
  • Oregano, Salt & Pepper to taste

METHOD: 

  1. Cut the Italian roll lengthwise and soak both sides of the bread, top and bottom, with olive oil, vinegar and sprinkle oregano.
  2. Assemble the sandwich by layering it with prosciutto on the bottom, then the salami, then the provolone.
  3. Shred the lettuce finely and put in the middle and fold over the meats.
  4. Add the tomatoes on top so they do not slide off while eating.
  5. Firmly close the sandwich and cut in half.
