Sometimes you want a quick bite and a drink, other times you want a full meal and spend more than an hour on a date or special occasion. There are all types of drinking and eating establishments. Here is a rough guide:
- Bar – Simple establishment serving drinks. Usually food is not sold or served here, unless they are bar snacks and/or simple things like burgers and fries.
- Bitters – Concentration of herbs in a solution to elevated the cocktail, typically added in drops
- Brewery – A place they make beer.
- Club – Usually a dance or music venue serving alcohol
- Cockail – An alcoholic beverage prepared with 3 or more ingredients, garnishes and/or bitters.
- Distillery – A place where they actually make the distilled spirit (gin, vodka, whiskey, etc)
- Drink – A simple alcoholic beverage with no fancy preparation (Wine, beer, highball)
- Gastro Pub – A pub serving a modern version of simple dishes with a gourmet style
- Mocktail – A drink that appears to look like a cocktail with garnishes and flair, but has no alcohol in it.
- Osteria – Italian wine bar with simple a simple and/or limited menu for food.
- Pub – Generally a beer-focused bar specializing in various different styles of beer, ale and brewed alcoholic beverages.
- Saloon – A gathering place and older type of bar generally reserved for men only.
- Speakeasy – A secret or private bar hidden within another establishment, not always open to the general public.
- Tavern – Usually connected to a hotel which serves basic food and drink
- Tiki Bar – A bar with a tropical theme serving exotic drinks.
- Trattoria – Small Italian restaurant with a basic menu for food.
- Ristorante – Italian restaurant with a full menu, bar and wine list.
- Vineyard – A farm where they actually ferment and produce wine
